Writing a journal article takes time and effort. In these 9 sessions, we'll explore relevant resources for writing a journal article and give you time to write as well. This series is ideally suited for writing teams, labs, or co-authors embarking on writing an article. Topics include:
Session 1 - Authorship, Journal Selection Tools, and Resources: Early in the process, co-authors can identify roles, select a journal together, and plan use of available resources.
Session 2 - Conducting the lit review and choosing a citation manager (Librarians): Librarians provide guidance in the hunt for the most relevant literature and how to manage references.
Session 3 - Identifying the gap & writing the abstract: What is missing in the literature on this topic? Using specialized writing tools, writers will practice the skill of justifying their work and summarizing it in a concise abstract.
Session 4 - Writing the Introduction: In this session, writers will examine the elements of an introduction and plan theirs.
Session 5 - Writing the Methods: In this session, writers will examine the elements of the methods section and plan theirs.
Session 6 - Writing the Results & choosing graphics: In this session, writers will analyze what constitiutes the results section and plan their graphics.
Session 7 - Writing the Discussion: What does it all mean? In this session, writers will review the elements of the discussion section and plan theirs.
Session 8 - Revising and meeting the journal guidelines: In this session, writers will practice revising for content, rewriting sentences for clarity, and aligning articles with journal guidelines.
Session 9 - Proofreading & Responding to Reviewer Comments: This session will cover fine points of proofreading and important points in responding to reviewer comments (e.g., tone and willingness).
