Outcomes of Interprofessional Simulated Patient Encounter for Undergraduate Exercise Science Students Online
Instructor: Travis Pollen, PhD
The workshop will describe the implementation of an innovative simulated patient (SP) encounter for sophomore Exercise Science students. The discussion will include how the program was integrated into EXSC 210: Developing the Interprofessional Team, which takes a case-based approach to team healthcare dynamics. This program is an extension of Team Care Planning, a long-standing interprofessional simulation led by Jefferson Center for Interprofessional Practice and Education that includes SPs in a team meeting scenario. This initiative was a novel addition to the Team Care Planning portfolio and the first for undergraduate students.
This presentation will include evaluation results from two student cohorts and share ideas to encourage integration of interprofessional education activities into undergraduate programs.
At the end of the session, participants should be able to:
-
Describe the steps to implementing an interprofessional simulation activity for undergraduate students.
-
Discuss the impact of an interprofessional simulation activity on undergraduate students according to two Kirkpatrick levels of evaluation: reaction and learning.
-
Reflect on how interprofessional education activities can be integrated across degree programs.
