Training Program for Anatomy & Physiology Instruction Online
Instructor: Nanette Tomicek, PhD
Undergraduate A&P courses are foundational to clinical education programs. The laboratory course provides hands-on basic science and clinical application experiences at a small student-to-teacher ratio. In line with national trends most GA programs lack sufficient training in pedagogy and fail to support GAs with critical first-time teaching skills. This workshop will discuss the creation of a tailored Graduate Assistant (GA) pedagogy training program to develop and maintain a community of supported, qualified instructors to improve the experience of the GA and better serve undergraduates enrolled in introductory Anatomy & Physiology (A&P).
At the end of this sessions, participants should be able to:
-
Describe the importance of undergraduate A&P courses as a foundation to clinical education programs
-
Discuss the lack of sufficient training in pedagogy skills for instructors in GA programs.
-
Reflect on how the Graduate Assistant pedagogy training program serves to improve the learning of undergraduate students in A&P programs at Jefferson.
