A Longitudinal Study of Interprofessional Socialization and Identity Development in the Health Professions In-Person

This 10-year longitudinal, narrative study provides insight into the process of professional socialization, identity formation, and interprofessional learning across 5 health professional programs - from pre-program entry to two years into professional practice.

Findings:

Provide an understanding of the range of experiences, factors, settings and situations that influence health professional students' perceptions and expectations of interprofessional collaboration
Have informed early influences on professional socialization such as recruitment and career choice, formal curricula and accreditation standards
Provide direction for practice environments and professional organizations in terms of ongoing professional socialization and continuing interprofessional education
