A Longitudinal Study of Interprofessional Socialization and Identity Development in the Health Professions In-Person

This 10-year longitudinal, narrative study provides insight into the process of professional socialization, identity formation, and interprofessional learning across 5 health professional programs - from pre-program entry to two years into professional practice.
Findings:
- Provide an understanding of the range of experiences, factors, settings and situations that influence health professional students' perceptions and expectations of interprofessional collaboration
- Have informed early influences on professional socialization such as recruitment and career choice, formal curricula and accreditation standards
- Provide direction for practice environments and professional organizations in terms of ongoing professional socialization and continuing interprofessional education
