Less is More: Designing for Clarity and Cognitive Ease In-Person / Online

In this hands-on workshop, we’ll explore how simplifying your content can actually boost student understanding. You’ll learn the basics of cognitive load theory and discover practical design strategies to make your slides and Canvas content clearer and more effective. Through real examples and redesign activities, you’ll walk away with tools to help students focus on what matters most and retain it.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

1. Identify sources of extraneous cognitive load in course materials.
2. Apply multimedia design principles to improve clarity and reduce overload in slides and Canvas content.
3. Redesign a piece of instructional content using evidence-based design strategies.
