Leveraging AI for Instructional Innovation: Chatbots, Agents, and Beyond Online

Facilitator: Elif Gokbel, EdD

AI chatbots are rapidly evolving, with tools like Microsoft Copilot Agents introducing new possibilities for personalized, interactive learning experiences. This workshop will explore how AI chatbots, particularly Copilot Agents, can be leveraged in the classroom to support engagement, feedback, and active learning.
We’ll review current research on the educational use of generative AI and customizable agents, demonstrate practical examples of classroom applications, and examine emerging tools beyond Microsoft Copilot.

Whether you're exploring AI for the first time or looking to refine your implementation, this workshop will offer research-informed insights and practical strategies to guide your instructional design.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

1.    Describe the capabilities of AI chatbots, including Microsoft Copilot Agents, and how they differ from traditional AI tools.
2.    Analyze at least three instructional use cases where AI chatbots can enhance student engagement or learning.
3.    Explore customization features in chatbot platforms (e.g., Copilot, ChatGPT, Poe) for tailored classroom applications.
4.    Summarize current research and pedagogical considerations related to the use of generative AI in education.
