Nuanced Conversations in Mentorship Online

Instructors: Alliric Willis, MD, Dimitri Papanagnou, MD, and Kristi Bergman, MA, MEd

Mentoring is an essential component to career success, productivity, and satisfaction. The goals of these two faculty professional development workshops are to introduce faculty to mentor-mentee concepts and provide a framework for building specific mentoring skills -- for both the mentor and the mentee. The principles and methods discussed are generalizable to all faculty and may be used to guide mentorship programs within departments, as well as to assist mentors and mentees in optimizing their respective mentoring relationships. This workshop will build upon information discussed at the December 11th workshop "Mentoring 101: Being an Effective Mentor and Mentee."

At the end of this session, participants should be able to:

  1. Participate in reflection exercises through a self-assessment to areas for further professional development

  1. Identify the characteristics that great mentors possess

  1. Discuss successful strategies to initiate and maintain mentoring relationships

  1. Define the roles and responsibilities of the mentor and the mentee
