New Faculty Workshop Series for Health Science Faculty: Prepare for Success in an Academic Career (4 Sessions) In-Person

Location: Eakins Lounge, Jefferson Alumni Hall

This four-session series is intended to focus and orient the faculty member who is new to Jefferson and new to academics. This series will highlight those topics that are critical for eventual success of the faculty member in academics. Participation in all sessions is expected. 

 The topics of the sessions will include:   

1. Preparing for success in your academic career: understanding the academic environment; setting goals and obtaining feedback; and developing an individualized career development plan 

2. Effective Mentorship: how to engage with mentors and sponsors to facilitate your academic career 

3. Basic Time Management Strategies  

4. Readiness for Success—how prepared are you? 

  

At the end of the session, participants should be able to:   

1. Describe the academic environment and the achievements necessary to be successful. 

2. Develop individualized goals and a career development plan. 

3. Identify what it is to be a mentee and use the tools to improve the mentor/mentee relationship. 

4. Apply time management strategies that are discussed in the series to your day-to-day routines. 

5. Describe the resources available at Jefferson that will help and support your development as a faculty member including those for research and scholarship.
