Using AI-Aware Pedagogy to Reimagine Assignments In-Person / Online

Facilitator: Carmín Disbrow, MEd

This workshop will help you reimagine assignments and assessments to promote more authentic learning experiences in a world where students have access to generative AI tools. You will apply core principles of AI-aware pedagogy— teaching approaches that integrate an understanding of artificial intelligence (AI) into the curriculum, focusing on both its potential benefits and limitations—to revise an existing assignment/assessment in ways that are learner-centered, authentic, and reflective of 21st-century competencies.

This workshop is ideal if you are seeking to move beyond detection and restriction toward creativity, originality, and authentic learning adaptations of your teaching in an AI-saturated world.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

  1. Define AI-aware pedagogy and review its core principles.
  2. Explore key characteristics of AI-aware assignments and assessment criteria.
  3. Redesign an existing assignment using AI-aware strategies that promote originality, deeper learning, and real-world relevance.
  4. Collaborate with peers to give and receive feedback on assignment redesigns.
