Anato-Bee: A Program to Increase Retention and Engagement in STEMM Online

Instructor: Jenna Hagerty, MD

Securing the future of the STEMM workforce requires early engagement, inclusive opportunities, and strategic collaboration. This presentation will explore the design and implementation of the Anato-Bee, a national outreach competition aimed at increasing student retention and success in STEMM fields.

The Anato-Bee provides free access to study materials, tutoring, and mentorship, while recognizing top-performing students with scholarships to STEMM programs—lowering barriers to entry and boosting motivation. This session will highlight the program's structure, impact on participating students, and how it fosters long-term interest in STEMM careers. Attendees will also gain insight into the importance of sustainability through sponsorships and grant funding to ensure the longevity and growth of the initiative.

At the end of this session, participants should be able to:

  1. Understand the design principles involved in creating a national outreach competition to increase retention in STEMM.

  1. Apply equitable and high quality opportunity for all participants.

  1. Discuss how to provide scholarly and research opportunities for participants through a collaborative environment.
