Mentoring is a cornerstone of academic success, professional growth, and personal fulfillment. This year’s faculty development mentoring series offers a progressive journey through four sessions: Mentoring 101 (Foundations), 201 (Common Scenarios and Challenges), 301 (Advanced Practice through Case Studies), and 401 (Controversies and Complex Conversations).

These interactive workshops are designed to support mentors and mentees alike—whether you are just beginning to explore mentoring or are navigating nuanced challenges in long-standing relationships. Participants will reflect on their own mentoring needs and experiences, build essential skills, and engage in candid conversations about what makes mentoring meaningful and effective. Sessions will be conversational, practical, and rooted in real-world examples relevant to our academic community.

By the end of this series, participants will be able to:

  1. Reflect on their personal approach to mentoring and identify areas for growth.

  1. Recognize the core characteristics of effective mentors and mentees.

  1. Apply strategies to initiate, sustain, and optimize mentoring relationships.

  1. Navigate challenges and explore complex or controversial issues that arise in mentoring practice.
