Investigating and informing study strategy changes made by first semester Jefferson College of Pharmacy Students Online
Instructors: James Dyksen, MSEd, Liam Mosteller
Students entering Doctor of Pharmacy programs often encounter a steep learning curve due to the volume of information, time demands, and high expectations for mastery. The first semester is especially critical, as students must quickly adapt their study strategies to succeed in this rigorous academic environment.
To support this transition, the Jefferson College of Pharmacy (JCP) has partnered with the Center for Academic Success (CAS) for the past four years to deliver targeted programming during orientation and the first semester. A key component of this initiative is the use of the Learning and Study Strategies Inventory (LASSI), which helps students engage in metacognition and critical reflection on their learning habits.
At the end of this session, participants should be able to:
-
Discuss relevant findings in the LASSI data analysis.
-
Identify relevant findings in the qualitative analysis of student reflection on study strategy changes and effectiveness.
-
Describe recommendations for how to assist students with first-year study and learning efficiency adjustments.
